"Instead of transporting in bags or silos, a huge amount of bulk materials is nowadays increasingly transported in medium-sized containers, such as Big bags, octabins, FIBCs, Gaylord boxes etc. However, when emptying the containers, conveying operation is more difficult than estimated. When emptying by means of conventional suction nozzles or of tilting or turnabout of the full containers, the evacuating is very laborious and not yielding a result as expected. Moreover than 10 years, the emptying problem is solved with HELIOS by means of discharging from top of the container with help of sophisticated OKTOMAT system."

The problem

When discharging a bulk bag, big bag, IBC, FIBC, Super Sack, octobox without a bulk bag discharger, e.g. using a standard suction lance to exhaust the material, the discharging process is often involuntarily interrupted and causes blatant problems, especially at the end of discharging an bulk bag.The operator has to supervise the suction lance manually over a longer period of time to ensure the bulk bag discharging is successful. This frequently involves 1hour or more in labour time for discharging a "complete" bulk bag (to go to the bulk bag/box, reset the suction lance, pull the bag inlet, restart the conveying, not counting the lost processing time). Nowadays hightech machines shouldn´t be supplied like that bulk bag discharge attempt.

The solution - OKTOMAT^®

Instead of a suction lance, the OKTOMAT® bulk bag discharger system has a stainless steel suction head with a vibration device to remove bulk material and make it flow for a better vacuum discharge.
At the same time, a device lifts e.g. the Bulk bag inlet bag or big bag upwards and inwards, putting pressure on the material near the sides of the bulk bag, and causing it to flow. Depending on the lifting power, at a certain fill level the buk bag-foil will be lifted from the floor so that a completely discharge is possible. Other types of discharger / discharging systems for bulk bag, big bag, Oktobox, pallet cage and fold box frequently do not work satisfactorily causing problems with automatic material supply

Problems emerge from tilting the Bulk bag-Octobox
with or without tapping the side panel or bottom

a cablefork is necessary to lift the Octobox (bulk bag)
regrind and material with poor flow characteristics cannot be discharged at all
there is a large amount of material left over even if the resin flows easily
pieces of the octobox plastic liner/carton may get into the bulk material when getting tapped
additional vibration devices intended to loosen the bulk material frequently have the opposite effect of compacting material further
dirt loosened from the pallet gets into bulk material

Problems encoutered when turning the Octobox-IBC- Box-Fold box over to discharge it completely

the complicated hydraulic construction makes a tall ceiling height necessary
space to store at least 4 bulk bags is needed
interrupting the bulk bag (Octobox) discharging process is not possible but this has to happen before the bulk bag is turned over.
at least 1 forklift is necessary to raise the Octobox
complete emptying / discharging is not always possible. Bulk material remains in folds of the plastic liner

Problems encountered when using big bag rehanging systems for discharge

complex discharge equipment with a load crane means a high investment is necessary
at least 1 forklift is necessary to raise the big bag - FIBC - bulk bag
interrupting the discharge-process is either not possible or extremely difficult.
a lot of dust is generated when evacuating the bulk bag, big bag, FIBC
dirt and dust loosened from the outside of the big bag / bulk bag may get into the material
personnel may be in danger while loading the discharging-tower

Advantages of discharging simply from top of the Bulk bag

it is suitable for Bulk bag, big bag, Super sack and all FIBC with plastic liner (e.g. Octobox)
partial emptying is possible. Stopping the discharging process is possible at any time
